LG XBOOM 360 speaker review – you get a massive sound and a light show

To create a big sound you need a big speaker and that’s exactly what you get with the LG XBOOM 360 which is designed to fill your home space with quality audio.

It’s also meant to be enjoyed anywhere and comes with a handle on the unit so you can easily carry it room to room or anywhere you want to enjoy the huge sound.

The stands 51.4cm high and is 24.8cm wide and weighs a hefty 5.8kg.

It has a conical design and has been engineered to deliver the same sound in all directions so, unlike regular speakers, there is not a single sweet spot.

With the LG XBOOM 360 (RP4B) Bluetooth speaker – everywhere is a sweet spot.

This multidirectional audio is a feat of engineering with the music quality able to be enjoyed equally no matter where you are sitting or standing.

Under the hood is a titanium tweeter with a diaphragm that can manage clear highs while the glass fibre 5.25-inch woofer comes in to play to create crisp vocals and the duct structure looks after pumping out solid bass and large mid tones.

The result is a large and excellent sound that, despite its massive presence still allows the fine details to shine through.

There are physical buttons along the top edge so you can control the music if you’re close enough to the speaker.

LGXBOOMReview4

If not, you can control it through your smartphone when you’re streaming your music.

There’s also an AUX IN port so you can physically connect a source as well.

But the LG XBOOM 360 is more than just a big-sounding speaker.

It’s also a light show.

The light is built into the top third of the speakers inside the large air vent and has three modes – ambient, nature and party – and a total of nine presets to match your mood and the occasion.

It does a great job creating a mesmerising atmosphere when you’re listening to your music.

LGXBOOMReview7

You can have even more fun with the XBOOM app (free on iOS and Android) which lets you play DJ from the palm of your hand for scratching and other effects like phaser, flanger, electric guitar sound effects, delay and loops.

The app also allows you to tweak the sound which are designed for different music types and there’s a Bass Boost option as well if you want even more.

On the battery side, the speaker runs for up to 10 hours on a full charge which means you’re not tied to a power point and can listen to it where you want.

LGXBOOMReview3

If you are near power you can keep it plugged in – and this will also charge the battery.

And while the LG XBOOM 360 is designed as a go-anywhere speaker – despite its hefty size and weight.

One thing that’s missing is any sort of water resistance rating, so you need to be careful if you take the speaker outside.

It would have been nice if the LG XBOOM 360 had some extra smarts like Google Assistant or Alexa onboard like a lot of other cheaper and small smart speakers offer.

LGXBOOMReview6

But overall, the LG XBOOM is a stunning speaker not only to listen to but also to look at as well thanks to the light show.

The LG XBOOM 360 is available now for the discounted price of $469 (usually $569).

LGXBOOMReview5

VERDICT

LG has delivered an excellent audio experience with the XBOOM 360 with enough power to fill a house with sound but also intimate enough to play in your room while offering a pleasing light show to go with it.
